Security Guidelines
Last updated: May 26, 2026
Nexend is designed for private, local peer-to-peer transfers. Follow these guidelines to keep your files, devices, and network sessions secure.
1. Local-Only Architecture
Nexend transfers files directly between devices on your local network. Your content is not uploaded to cloud storage during normal transfers. Data moves point-to-point using encrypted local connections without routing through external file servers.
2. Trust Only Known Devices
Only accept transfers from devices you recognize. Nexend supports device trust and authorization steps so you can confirm peers before sharing sensitive files.
- Verify the sender device name and network before approving a session.
- Decline pairing or transfer requests from unknown devices on public networks.
- Remove or reset trusted devices if a phone or computer is lost or replaced.
3. Secure Pairing & QR Codes
QR pairing uses tokenized, AES-encrypted handshake parameters for fast setup. Scan codes only from devices you control, and avoid sharing pairing QR codes in public channels where others could join your session.
4. Network & Hotspot Hardening
When using Wi-Fi Direct or mobile hotspot modes, treat the connection like a private link between two devices.
- Use a strong hotspot password when creating a temporary transfer network.
- Prefer trusted home or office networks over open public Wi-Fi for large transfers.
- Close active transfer sessions and disable hotspot sharing when finished.
5. Web Share Safety
Browser-based Web Share uses WebRTC for direct peer connections. Enable Web Share only when needed, complete the security verification step, and share session links only with intended recipients. Do not post live share URLs on public forums.
6. Your Responsibilities
You are responsible for the files you send and receive. Do not transfer malware, copyrighted material you do not own, or sensitive data to untrusted peers. Keep Nexend updated to receive the latest security fixes and transfer improvements.
